Operation Manual

All Chubby stoves should be kept 36" away from combustibles 18" away from non combustibles. These distances can be cut in half with the use of proper heat shields. All stove installations should be inspected by your local fire department or code enforcement officer before you light it for the first time.
*Remember, once you have a red hot wood fire add two inches of coal. Let it catch on, when it turns bright red 5 - 10 minutes then close the air intake on the bottom door to about 1/8" open. Next, fill your Chubby to the top of the fire pot with coal. It is not necessary to fill your stove with small amounts of coal while waiting for each layer to light. The coal will catch on a few inches at a time over several hours. Layering will cause you to burn out your grate, get short burn times, and give you more heat than you need. Once you close the air intake and fill the stove with coal you can leave the pipe damper open for about ten minutes then close the pipe damper 95% of the or more if you have sufficient draft. You will learn how good your draft is once you burn your first pot of coal. Adjust accordingly. There are holes in the cast iron pipe damper so even if it is closed there is enough draft to remove products of combustion out of your stove.
